Recently the government introduced a new recruitment scheme that allowed young adults to become a part of the prestigious armed services. Dubbed the ‘Agnipath’ scheme, the new recruitment policy is an attempt toward creating an AatmaNirbhar, Sashakt Bharat by the Government of India.

The growing zeal to dedicate one’s life to serving the nation triggered this novel idea which is aimed at inculcating discipline & skill in youth. If you have this strong zeal but are unsure about joining the armed forces there are many other ways to become a selfless professional who works to help others.

As Mahatma Gandhiji rightly says, “The Best Way to Find Yourself Is To Lose Yourself In The Service Of Others”

So, if you are someone who wishes to devote their life and professional career to the service of the nation and the service of others. Or if you are someone who is dauntless in the face of danger like an Agniveer on the battlefield then we have just the right career path. You can devote your life to police services, disaster management services, or the rapidly growing field of firefighting.

What does a firefighter do?

A common misconception is that a firefighter is someone whose role is limited only to dousing fires and protecting lives in case of a fire outbreak. While this is an important part of their jobs, firefighters do a lot more than this. Firefighters are first responders to many medical emergencies which means that they are trained emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Further, firefighters are tasked with generating awareness and sensitising citizens about fire prevention and disaster preparedness. Firefighters are required to maintain tools and fire vehicles and are always kept on alert for future emergencies.

How can I become a firefighter?

To secure your future in firefighting you can enrol in courses at any stage. You can enrol right after completing your 10th in an entry-level course, or after your 12th for an undergraduate degree, or after your undergraduate for a post-graduate diploma.

The basic degrees required to be a firefighter are:

Certificate Course in Firefighting

Diploma Course in Firefighting

Certificate Course in Firefighting

Certificate courses are usually 6-9 months long. They focus on developing the foundational skills required for a firefighter to deal with emergency situations by employing the correct protocol. These courses are enough to make students ‘Job Ready.’

Diploma courses are longer, typically a year long, They deal with providing intrinsic on-ground training backed with a deeper understanding of the field of firefighting. Pursuing a diploma course allows students to have the confidence and knowledge which is central to tackle any pressing situation.

A good course from a recognised institution can not only equip one with first-hand knowledge and technical know-how but can also help one find a job opportunity. IFE (India) can be a very good option for such aspirants.
